Would you let your 5 year old do this chore?

My dd will be 5 on the 19th. She loves doing laundry. So yesterday I was busy cleaning up the kitchen when the washer buzzed. I asked dd to go down to the basement and switch it out for me. She's done it many times supervised and knows what she's doing. My dad made it seem like it was some kind of abuse. What are your thoughts?

I'd have her do it. She's willing, then go for it.

She loves it! She cried last week because I wouldn't let her fold her clothes and put them away. Lol the only thing I don't like her to do is carry the basket up and down the stairs.

My dd is a year older than yours and loves doing laundry. She begs me to let her do it. I usually pay her a nickel every time she does it. If she loves it, let her do it.

I wish my kids would ask to help. I have one that will put her clothes away but the moment the other kids see me with baskets of folded laundry they scatter like roaches lol.

Lol I would scatter if I could. It's nice that she likes to help. And it won't last so I figure make the most of it now!

My 4 year old helps me switch around the laundry all the time. He loves it. He says "I'm such a good big helper!" Teaching your children about chores and that helping you out around the house is a good thing is well, a good thing. Don't let your dad make you feel bad for teaching your kid.

My  6 year old and 9 year old help me with landry. My 9 year old knows how much soap to put in and all that. I have not had her do it alone herself. But if she can do it. Why not.

Umm.. I am all for bringing joy and brightness to a childs life. I will totally let her come right over here and take care of my big scary spring cleaning pile of laundry that appears to be growing as I'm doing it! Only because it would make her happy though! ;-)

My 4 year old dd switces the laundry over all the time. She is a great helper! I see no problem with your dd doing that.
