So I am going to get my 1st tattoo tonight at 6 PM. I guess I just really need advice on what to expect. What etiquette to follow and any tips you ladies may have.

I plan on arriving about 15 min early and I do plan on leaving a Tip (What is acceptable? The tattoo is going to be $300)

Thank you!!

Be still once they start to tatoo.
Be prepared for the pain, depending on location and your pain threshold.
Make sure they use fully sterile equipment.
Tips are always excellent.

What are you getting?

It's two cartoon villains as chibi's standing back to back looking all cute and Innocent and underneath is the quote I use all the time "Trust is for fools"

Be still

Dont ask if its going to hurt or how much its going to hurt

Definitely tip

Ask if they do free touch ups if the color fades after healing.

Everyone will tell you different ways to care for a healing tattoo.  Follow the advice of your artist.

I always bring something or someone to take my mind off of the first 20 min or so.  for $300 i would expect 1/12-2 hrs or more.

This particularly. Oh, and don't scratch.

Also, for a $300 peice I'd tip anywhere between 30 and 75 bucks. That's just me though.

Be still. Make sure he opens a needle in front of you, and changes his gloves if he stops to drink something, or answer the phone.

It's going to hurt. Just accept it. Remember to breathe. Holding your breathe constantly from pain, can cause you to vomit or pass out.

Eat 30 minutes before you go. You need your blood sugars up.

On a $300 tattoo, I would tip at least $75, and that is low for me.

How did you find this artist? Did you do some research?

YEs I did first I asked around, then I looked online for reviews.... I narrowed it down to like 3 places and decieded to check them out....One gave me the creeps, one was nice and the one I chose was very clean and the artists made me feel comfortible and I really liked their work.

- Make conversation with the artist.
- If you feel like you need to move, let the artist know so s/he can stop without messing up the tattoo.
- Make sure that you're comfortable in the position they have you in; if you're not then you're more likely to move/twitch.
- Watch them set up to make sure s/he is using clean, sterile instruments.
- I'm assuming you've seen his/her portfolio?  If not, look at that to make sure s/he is skilled in what you're getting and has been tattooing for a while.
-  As far as tipping..that really depends on how much you like the piece.  My frame of mind is $20-$30 for every $100 spent.  I have a fantastic piece on my back that took three hours..was $200 but I tipped $80 because I love it.

Above all, don't get mad at the artist if it hurts...tattoos aren't a massage but it's not the artist's fault if it hurts.  After about 10-15 minutes it's just an irritating sting (like when your foot is waking up and you scratch it or walk on it lol).

Oh!  And post pics when you're done! :)
