With her boyfriend. They only see each other at school and he has been at our house for dinner and gone on some family outings with us. They are always supervised, so I am not worried they are having sex. I had a talk with her this morning about it. I told her I wasn't mad or upset or even disappointed. I told her it is normal for her to have these feelings and that she can always talk to me. I warned her that sexts can follow you for life and she needs to think about that before pushing send. I also touched into the emotional and physical consequences of sex a little. She didn't lose use of the cell phone, she isn't grounded either.

So, how did I handle it? Judge away, I wore my big girl panties...

edit... she doesn't have a phone. She borrows my iPod touch. She will be more closely supervised with it, but I don't plan on taking it away. I also, am not delusional and figure she will probably still sext. I don't want her to feel shameful for having sexual desires.

I think you handled this really well. I would probably freak out and not know how to handle something like that. Thankfully my DD is only three months old, so I have time! I do think I need to take notes from you, though. My mom was always very understanding and open with me, but she also didn't raise me.

well i wont be surprised if she continues doing it. Kids in early teens and preteens have no sense of reality.

Make sure she knows that if she sends nudes of herself or recieves them from him. She can be charged with sending and receiving child pornography.

I am not sure I would have been as calm as you were.

Aww.....thank you! I expect to get a lot of responses that she should be punished, is too young for a boyfriend, I am too linient etc....

I think that you did good, give her a chance to correct the mistake. How do you know that she won't do it again if the texting is not enabled? See how she does. I'd check her phone in a week or so, then like once a month after, see how she handles the responsibility that goes along with texting and having a boyfriend.

I'd take the phone away. She's 12. She wouldn't have had a cell phone to begin with. Once again she's 12. She also wouldn't have had a boyfriend.
