Had to get a mandatory briefing on Safe Haven laws in high school.

i just finished a huge research paper on Safe Haven laws.  I made over 500 phone calls to fire stations, police depts, and hospitals across all 50 states.  I also did a survey of 1500 people aged 15-40. In addition, I emailed several high schools across the country.  The results of my survey were disturbing.  Almost 60% had no idea what Safe Haven laws were.  None of the schools I contacted inform their students of these laws.  But out of all the Safe Havens I contacted over 2500 babies were saved in the last four years...just on the ones contacted.  Babies found in dumpsters, bathrooms, and other places still happens at an alarming rate and the vast majority of the "parents" who dump the babies are under 18. My number in my study was 79% of abandoned babies were to teen parents.

One girl contacted me and said she gave her baby to a safe haven when she was 14. She saw the sign on a public bus.  She said she didn't know what she would have done had she not seen that sign.  Her parents didn't even know until she was older and had moved from the house.  She said her parents promoted abstinence and were pissed to find out she had been pregnant.

No. I want her to be prepared in any situation. I would be furious if she had a baby and for some reason felt she couldnt tell us and just left it in a dumpster to die......

It would only upset me if I couldn't opt-out.  I just don't like the government thinking it can force information on my child.

Nope. It might save a baby's life, even if a friend needs the info.
