You want to play with friends, you have to clean your room first. Am I wrong?

My son is 5 and in kindergarten. We live right across the street from the school and a couple of his friends live within walking distance of us. They're always asking me after school if he can play, or stopping by the house to play. Occasionally he gets to, but more often than not I tell the kids no because DS hasn't cleaned his room. And all the kids, DS and his friends, give me grief about it.

I grew up in a home where if I wanted to go out with friends or go do anything, all my chores had to be finished. Am I wrong??(

We have the same rule. Get home from school do your homework and chores and if it's done before dinner time then they get to go out and play.

No, you're not wrong. And he shouldn't be allowed to go even after he cleans it if he is giving you grief about it.
