Have You Heard This About Bald Eagle Feathers?...

Posted by   + Show Post

That it is illegal to have one if you are not a Native American.  And, that you can be fined up to $100,000 if you have one in your possession and you can't prove you're a Native American?  confused

My very first one, because I felt I really earned it in a community project that I led with the youth. The other two were received in a more ceremonial nature, just because.

Does it make you feel special? I smile every time I go look at mine. :)

Quoting ikesmommy:

I have several myself from my elders and neighboring tribes that we visit or come to vist us during our seasonal gathering.

My stepdad gifted one to me when I was 17. It's very pretty and I keep it in a safe place. It's part of his family and tribe's tradition to give your kids their first feathers. I was very honored. :)

Quoting ikesmommy:

Of course. But there is more to that. You must be a federally recognized Native American. My tribe is only state recognized, like a lot of others. However, there are instances where you can be gifted a feather from a fed-recog native.
