We have to mail our taxes in... Problem is a our forms got a little damaged. I had DD in my arms and knocked over a glass of punch and it got all over the envelope.  SO in a hurry I put DD down got everything out of the envelope to dry and set my w2 in syrup from breakfast!  NOW whenever I put my w2 with the papers it STICKS to everything like its been glued.  Can I put clear tape over they sticky part so it stops sticking that way they can still see everything? TIA

Can you request another copy of your w2 from your employer?

You can make a copy and file that.

She never gets us what we need in time.  They have to be mailed by the 15th right?

I thought it had to be the original copy?

My DH received his W2 online and printed it out so I wouldn't think it would be any different than that.  The IRS has already received the information from your employer so as long as the copy has not been altered, it wouldn't be a problem.

Why are you doing paper returns when there are so many ways to file your taxes online for free?

Well, that stinks that she won't get it to you in time.  It looks like you might be able to file without you original copy.

H&R Block online says:

"If I lost my Form W-2, how can I get a new W-2?

Contact your employer in writing to request a replacement W-2. Your employer must send it to you by the later of these dates:

  • Within 30 days after receiving your written request
  • Within 30 days after your final wage payment

If you can't obtain a replacement W-2 on or before the tax deadline date, you can use the information on your last paycheck stub. Complete Form 4852: Substitute for Form W-2. However, you might need to file an amended return if both of these apply:

  • You receive your W-2 after filing your return.
  • Your W-2 and your last paycheck stub information differ."

Another idea would be to call a tax preparer and explain the situation.  They might be willing to tell you if you can use a photocopy or not or if you can put tape over the sticky part.  It wouldn't hurt to try calling.  Good luck!  I hate taxes!

We have a lot of forms that we have to file so they have to be gone over by a person.  Its crappy.
