WHO DO YOU THINK SHOULD PA ETA WHERE BOOKS WERE LOST

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post
here is the scenario. mom and dad are split up. Mom has sole custody with bi monthly visitation to dad. during a school field trip to the library child check out 10 books. this was a month ago. mother gets a call from library stating books are past due. only four of the 10 can be located. so mother then has to pay $49.95 to replace the six lost books.

father does not pay child support.

mother calls and tells father that book need to be replaced. and asks for help in paying for books

do you think father should help pay for lost books?

CHILD TOOK BOOKS TO SCHOOL AND LOST THEM. NEVER BROUGHT THEM HOME.

NEITHER PARENT WAS PRESENT. CHILD CAME HOME TO MOTHERS AND HAD BOOKS. TOOK BOOKS TO SCHOOL AND DADS. AND BACK TO SCHOOL WHERE THEY WERE THEN LOST.

I agree with some of the others, it depends on who had possession of the books when they were lost. If the child had the books at his mom's house when they were lost then it's on the mom to pay, if the books were at the dad's house then it should be on him to pay.

They both should pay.  If he's not paying support he should offer to pay the entire amount.

Depends on where the books were lost. If they were lost at mom's house then mom has to pay and if they were lost at dad's house then dad pays.

Wow, the library allowed the child to check out 10 books on a field trip?!  The policy was one book per child for field trips at my library.  If the kids complained we told them to ask their parents to bring them back to check out the other books, and usually we did see the kids escorted back to the library by their parents that evening.  Is 49.95 a discounted fine?  Oh, and I think whoever has primary custody should pay for the books, if the books got lost at mom's house then mom should pay the fine.

Whoever's house they were lost in should pay, IMO.

okay you say they were taken out on a school trip, but doesnt the son then come home to his mothers house after said school trip? its her responsibility to check his backpack and put things up so he doesnt lose them. if it happens once it can happen again. and just because he doesnt pay child support doesnt mean the dad has to pay. its the mothers responsibility to go to child support and file a claim or ask dad for child support.

Of course he should, but that doesn't mean he has to.

On who's time were the books checked out on? Mom's then she should be responsible for them. Dads? Then he should.

I agree.

If this happened within the mother's time with the child, the mother should pay.

The father should be paying child support, but he shouldn't have to pay for books that were lost on the mother's time.

the child needs to pay for the books. he is the one who lost them. and dad needs to pay child support.
