I coach a soccer team and one of our boys (8) isn't playing this week because he failed to do his chores twice.

As a coach this pisses me off because we have 8 boys. 1 had surgery and 1 is going out of town so I'm already down 2..its not fair for the team when you put your kid in a sportad then use it as leverage aganist them

Argh! Sorry just venting..I about fell over when the dad told me his son has to stand at attention at practice and then just watch the game Saturday because he failed to do chores..

Fuckin idiot.

i agree, i wouldn't stop my kids from sports as a form of punishment for not doing chores. a sport is a commitment, good or bad it's gotta be done!

Their child means it is their choice how to punish as they see fit

It's not something I would do, but it is their choice.

I don't let my kids do sporting events as a punishment. It makes my kids straighten up, and sports are not more important than school or proper behavior.

And I view it as a lesson that sometimes your actions have impacts on others too

I know..but from my pov as their coach it isn't just punishing that one child but an entire team. I have to have 5 to play and if one kid gets sick between now and Saturday I am down to 5 with no subs.

It just annoys me even though it is his right as a parent.

If my kids aren't pulling their weight around the house, they are not about to participate in any extracurriculars. Sorry if it hurts the team, but my kids should have thought about that before they didn't do their chores.

I've coached many teams and I can't stand when parents do this.
