Between a normal marital spat and being a collosal asshole.

We were tired and snappy (we have a newborn), and while I was picking up our beautiful son to soothe him, DH said

"well, maybe you shouldn't have had another baby."

He sounds like you are ignoring his feelings.

I'm sure he didn't mean it.  Because, as you said, you're tired and snappy because of the baby.

The child didn't know what his father said...and, although you did, and it hurts, you also know he didn't mean it.

Talk it out and you'll be okay.

I told him he needs to never say those words again. God forbid our 4 year old hear them, or he says them when the baby is older.

Ouch!  Well...tired, cranky parents of a newborn say icky shit to each other sometimes.  Hopefully,  he will cool down and realize how particularly icky his shit was.

Well, what was the argument leading up to this comment?

Nope, not at all. I asked him to help with the baby. He gets approximately 6 or 7 hours of sleep each night, I get 3.

He got snotty, and I told him I needed help because I am exhausted and feel like my body is falling apart.

It might be time for some marriage counseling. Something is going on, especially if this isn't normal behavior for him.

Husbands often feel ignored right after a baby is born, they get feelings of jealousy even if they don't want to admit it. Newborns take up a lot of your time, the time your DH is use to getting.

Sit down and talk it out, try to find ways to show your DH that he is still very important to you.
