Kindergarten teacher told kids that when we die we're reincarnated....

My son told me that Ms. Teacher told the class that when we die, we "turn into babies again".  I figured I misunderstood what he was saying to I asked him to repeat it.  He said that the teacher said when we're old, we die, then we turn into babies again when we're born.

I'm not the most religious person, but I think that's out of line for her to be saying things like that.  I'm going to send her an email but not sure how to word it without sounding like I'm attacking her.  I simply want to know where he got the idea and if it was something that was discussed in the classroom.

What would you do?

I'd be glad she wasn't going on about the fires of hell to my kindergartner!

Maybe call her and tell her that discussing religious beliefs- even out of the "mainstream" is not acceptable. Remind her that those topics are to be discussed at home.

I wouldn't be happy about it.

I'd tell her off. Does she think only Christian beliefs are off limits? I'd let her know that any beliefs are off limits and she's there to teach certain things and her personal beliefs are not one of them.

Unless someone asked... I think this is a subject that teachers should just stay away from. But at this point.. this is when you explain to your child that sometimes people have different opinions and explain yours. If it wasn't the kindergarten teacher, it would have been someone else anyway because that's life. Use it as a learning experience.

Maybe ask the teacher how the conversation went???  Kids, especially kindergartners, can't be trusted to retell a conversation exactly as it happened...

I think I would want more info from the teacher.

If this is a public school then she was out of bounds.  I would talk to her and find out what she said and then talk to the principal.
