Having a second surgery next week and I'm scared

I'm not scared of the surgery, it's pretty basic and not major, but I'm scared that it won't actually fix what's going on.  I had major surgery in Dec that even though was needed (a huge disc herniation), it didn't help with the pain I have been dealing with in my neck/shoulder.  So, after seeing another specialist, we decided another surgery was needed, but now I'm not so sure.  This is pretty much my last option, if it doesn't work then I don't know what I'm going to do....probably just be on pain meds for the rest of my life which I DO NOT want to do. Maybe it's just nerves, but I'm terrified this won't work.

I know the feeling. In 2009 I had hip surgery and it didn't work as planned so back in December I had a total hip replacement. I was super nervous and scared it was not going to work right but so far so good.
Good luck!

1 mom liked this

Thank you!  And I'm glad that you're doing good so far!  It sucks being so scared and nervous, it's nice to hear success stories!  I hope things continue to go well.

What is the surgery for this time? My mom has had disc issues all my life due to a motorcycle accident when she was young. She's now on some hard core pain meds and will be for forever. She's tried acupuncture and nerve ablation lately though with some good results.

My dad who is an incomplete quad. my dads surgery in the begining failed. So be careful with all that.. Actually caused more problems than good for him.. He isn't an incomplete quad because of the surgery he had a freak accident that caused him to be that way, they will not touch him unless he cant stand the pain anymore, because very high chance he will become a full quadriplegic

It makes me sad when people go under the knife and then still have problems. Now you are on meds that you may become addicted to. There are better ways. Massage and accupuncture are 2 I can think of off the top of my head. People are too quick to jump into drugs and surgery. It's the American way I guess.

This next surgery is to remove scar tissue from my shoulder, I don't remember exactly what the name of it is. I haven't tried acupuncture yet, but I've heard that it can work really well.  I've done electrical muscle stimulation and ultra sound therapy.  Neither worked for me though.  Sad thing is pain meds (I'm taking Vicodin right now) don't work to take the pain away either.

Have your dad try Cranial-Sacral Therapy. It deals with the central nervous system and is non-invasive but very effective.
