Is It My Landlord's Responsibility To..

To provide a lock for my garage door?

My garage does not connect to my house. It has a sliding door on the outside and no other doors besides that one. No windows either.

It wasn't an issue before but now it is. I had my son's tricicyle in there and I was gone almost all day today with my son. I came home and someone was actually bold enough to go into my garage and ride my son's trike!

I found it outside in my yard when I returned. Like, what the hell dude? They didn't take anything. I also have my son's power wheel in there but it's locked up with a heavy chain. Who the heck goes into someone's garage, rides their kid's trike and walks off?

That bike was NOT OUTSIDE MY GARAGE when I left. I am 100 million percent sure.

Now I am afraid of his power wheel being stolen. I moved it to my basement for now.

I have no clue whatsoever about buying locks for garage doors, and if they are expensive I can't afford it.

Nothing is in my lease about the garage except that I share half with my neighbor upstairs. It was not him riding my son's trike lol. He can barely move because he had a stroke and has no grandchildren/children who come see him.

Was it in your lease? If not then no.

If its not covered in the lease, the best you can do is ask your landlord and hope he says yes.  Otherwise, you're SOL.

Just ask the landlord and explain the situation and if he says no ask him if you guys can buy one and put it on there.

Meh. For something like this, I wouldn't wait for the landlord to do it, I'd buy the lock myself

You can't just get a lock?

Just go to Home Depot and get one. Don't waste another second of someone getting your shit.

I would just buy a lock myself and not worry about it.

I'd just put a lock on myself and give a key to the neighbor you share with.

Talk to the land lord about it. A padlock shouldn't cost that much.

I'd just go buy a padlock, they're like $10.
