I just clean as I go and I make sure they clean up after themselves. They were taught from the time they were toddlers that if they make the mess, they clean the mess.

My kids clean up after themselves, as well as my husband (and me, of course). We don't allow toys in the living room, dining room, or kitchen. They have a whole big playroom and their own rooms for toys.

Don't ask me right now.  I'm about to throw my vacuum through the window.

I don't allow my kids to leave messes, at all. When they are done with whatever they have out, they have to put it away before they are allowed to move on to another activity. I started doing this with them very early on, and now it is just routine and normal

Yeah, you have to stay on it. We have people coming and going from our house all the time so it isn't uncommon for me to run through every hour to make sure everything is picked up and smells good.
