I went to the Family Dollar today. My total was $26.74. I gave the cashier (very young looking possibly in highschool of just graduated) a twenty dollar bill and a ten dollar bill so $30.00. She typed in that I gave her $27.00. She said "oh shoot I put in the wrong amount". I said "it's okay you owe me 3.26". She looked at me hesitanly and said "hang on" and she paged another girl up there. That girl came (another young girl but appeared older) up and the cashier told her what happened. That girl told me to hold on she needed to go to the office to use the calculator. I was like fucking seriously? Y'all owe me $3.26. She left and came back and told her to give me $3.26. For fucks sake what are they teaching our young kids in school? To depend on a damn calculator and not use your damn brain apparently.

Pretty much. When you've only got 40 minutes for a test there isn't time for doing it in your head, dontcha know?

Sadly I think this might be a trend.  People rely on technology far too much.

I understand testing and using a calculator but they need to be teaching how to do it long hand.

We will be in big time trouble if the computers and all technology goes down.

Why didn't she whip out her phone and use the calculator on it?

And no they start them out young, the 3rd graders use calculators now.
