What the hell is, "business casual"? *edit*

Posted by   + Show Post

My husband has a work party in a couple weeks. The invite says business casual. Im a jeans and t shirt kind of girl. I dont own a dress. I have one nice dressy kind of shirt, its a bit small, and a pair of dark wash jeans. Thats really it. Will that fly? Am i resigned to slacks or a dress? Neither of which i have, or am willing to buy.

Thank you ladies. I am not going to go out and buy anything for this party. Well, not anything ill wear once. I guess im rocking jeans and embarrassing my husband or not going.

That last line of my immature edit was a smart ass statement. I will be going, and i will be wearing my dark jeans with a dressy top and jewelry and heels. Of course ill do my hair and make up. That will be my effort. Im sorry i just dont want to go out and buy something i dont feel i will wear enough to warrent buying it.

Jeans aren't business casual. They mean a casual, but nice, dress, pair of dress pants, or a nice skirt with a nice top.

You don't have ONE pair of nice pants or ONE dress?

You wear jeans to funerals and weddings?

I just find that odd.

No jeans. Something you would wear to work. Maybe a dress

Agree with others.  Jeans are definitely out.

A pair of khaki capris and sandal with a fitted polo shirt would be an option. You can get these for very little $$ going somewhere like Target or Kohls.  Else a skirt or dress.

A pair of slacks and a reasonable top....  Something along this line:  http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://twentyproject.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/business-casual.jpg&imgrefurl=http://twentyproject.com/how-to-dress-business-casual-for-women/&h=431&w=600&sz=41&tbnid=6wxS_RVwCUukyM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=125&zoom=1&usg=__mn8XQmTbsmdMJyZRyTjfAq2xJcE=&docid=_qXkKPA41qw9GM&sa=X&ei=FjWJUdaKJpG14AP3voE4&ved=0CD8Q9QEwAQ&dur=53

I do not. I have never had an office job, and im just not a dressy type of person. I have a dark wash slim jean that look nice. That is as dressy as i get.

Well jeans are not ever business casual. You really should have something business casual in your closet to be honest. I would go and buy at least a nice blouse and a skirt or khaki pants.
