Let your kid be the kid they want to be...

So I was with dd at the park and there was a set of twins there.  They looked maybe 3-4.  It was boy/girl twins.  The little girl said she was a princess.  The mom immediately corrected her that she was NOT a princess and she needed to play a different game.  A little later her boy was in a group of boys playing pirates.  Again she told him that he was NOT a pirate and needed to play another game.

Another mom asked her why they couldn't play those games.  She said because princesses and pirates aren't reality.  I was in shock.  Pretend play is such a big part of growin up.  I can't imagine not letting my dd play pretend.

It's a shame she's discouraging them from using their imaginations.

That's sad, I let my boys be anything they want to pretend. From being a princess to being a super hero.
