I buy my hot dogs from a local butcher. He does not use scrap parts to make them, he uses real cuts of beef or pork. You can get them casing free or with natural casing. They are dye free and chemical free. When I feed my family hot dogs, I know EXACTLY what they are ingesting!
My butcher also makes cheeses and dairy products. He is not allowed to sell milk, but he can sell the rest. They are fresh and his cows are not given hormones.
And he sells eggs from free-range, hormone free chickens.
So if your children want hot dogs, or you are looking for a healthy alternative, check your local meat markets first. BBQ season is fast upon us, so be ready!
(The price varies, but overall I save a TON of money buying in bulk from my trusted local butcher.)
