Making Meal Plans is Stupid!

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

I plan my meals. A month at a time actually. This way I can go to the store and know EXACTLY what I need to buy and when to use it. The weekly plans get hung on the fridge so I know what to cook DD for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Well, DS just started on Gerber 1st foods, about a month ago. He's up to five different foods (3 veggies, two fruits) and actually eats A LOT. His doctor said though, that since he shows that he's no longer hungry by pushing away the spoon there's nothing to be worried about and if that means feed him two containers, then so be it. He's not overweight so that's not an issue. Well my mom was over yesterday when I pulled ALL of the baby food out of the cupboard, and started stacking it and writing out a baby meal plan for next month so that when I go to the store next Saturday, I will know exactly how many of each to buy. I have over $50 worth of baby food that I bought at the beginning of the month (yes, I planned what I was going to feed him and when to introduce what). Apparently it's disgusting that I have that much food and it's CRAZY and STUPID to buy that much baby food at once. When I told her I do that with all my other food (minus things that I need fresh, like Milk or fruits and veggies) she got this appalled look on her face, raised her hands in the air and yelled "I raised a freaking idiot" as she walked out the door. Is this really as stupid as she says it is or is she overreacting?

Quoting Lorena:

It's not that. It is knowing what to make on any given day.

Quoting Anonymous:

If you have Microsoft Word or Microsoft Word Starter on your computer it's super easy. You can go in and look for a meal plan template in the template search bar and it will give you a whole list of templates. I bought the business version so some of my templates will automatically put in what I put in my meal list into a shopping list.

Your mom is crazy! I would love to meal plan but I can never seem to do it. :(

geeze that was harsh!

I don't make meal plans. I'm pregnant I never know what I'm going to want to eat or what just isn't going to sound good at the moment.

But if you are organized enough to pull it off, more power to you. It does not make you an idiot to have a plan... smh!

I envy you your planning ability. I think it's brilliant.

Meal plans are not stupid.  I don't do it for a month in advance but they help you save time, money and mental energy since you aren't asking "what am I going to make" every day.  Your mom was probably just in a bad mood for some reason.

But i also meal plan for the month as well.

Not as far as you do.

But I buy for the month and whata there is what is there.

Which means if we run out of cereal we run out.

I only save enough for brwad milk eggs and butter if we run out.

But I dont go out of my way to say what we are having each day.

I also thing you should be introducing things more then once a month.

Not at all. It is cheaper this way.
