Good Laptop for a Kid?

For The BoyChild's 8th Birthday this August, I'm planning on getting him a laptop. After discussion with his teachers we all think it's very important that he start typing as soon as possible, and he would do well with his own computer.

What kind of laptop do you suggest for an 8 year old who has proven himself to be pretty responsible (ie. not dropping, slamming, or otherwise physically abusing the devices) with technology?

Well, it really all depends on what you want it for. I have a very light-weight laptop, very good for video's, gaming, word. It's a Samsung Seiries 7. I love it.

What are you looking for for him? What are the musts? What's your price rance?

If you can afford it; a Mac.

I actually HATE Apple products but they last a long time and they're great for kids.

best bet is to go to your local store with many to choose from and have the sales team help you choose a good system that will grow with him !!!!

Really I just need something simple and basic. For internet surfing/kids games and watching videos. The most important thing I need is something that all laptops come with, a keyboard so he can learn how to type.

I really don't like macs either. I'll look into that though. I'm looking for something durable and I know that they make a decent product.

I liked my dell too, but it died an untimely death.

What do you like best about that? What makes it more kid-friendly?
