Yep, I'm the same way. I'll peek out through the curtains to see who it is, but I won't open the door if I don't recognize them.

I don't freak out because its usually just a neighbor or delivery. We don't get soliciters or anything like that. If its dark I'll usually answer with my dog beside me just in case.

I do too. Our door is in an awkward spot where there are no windows and no peephole. It's impossible to see who's out there until you open the door.

I panic mainly cause I'm usually home alone and home invasions are somewhat normal in NM ... I usually will talk thru the door til i figure out who it is, but our close friends and family either have a unique knock pattern to show its someone we know or their own key lol

I have a note on my door that says "If you haven't spoken to me telling me you're coming DON'T KNOCK!"

I used to be, then I bought a gun. I still don't answer the door for unexpected visitors, but I don't panic about it anymore.

My heart starts pounding if the doorbell rings and I'm not expecting anyone. Everyone I know knows to let me know before they stop by.
