My cat just discovered her reflection.

My sister brought her full length mirror into the living room (not sure why). My cat saw her reflection, hissed, and jumped back. After a bit of inspecting, she crouched down, wiggled her butt, leapt towards the mirror.....and made a very amusing *BONK* sound when she hit the mirror.

My poor kitty looks so confused!

Oh, she's not a kitten. She's 8 years old and a bit.....special....

When I was in college I had a mirror that I never hung up (cause I'm a slacker), so it was just propped up against the wall and there was just enough room for my new kitten to walk behind. Kitten sees the mirror, sees his reflection and proceeds to scratch at the mirror, then walk behind it looking for the cat, back to scratching the mirror, walk behind, etc. He would do this for awhile, then find something else to do. Then awhile later he'd come back and do it all again lol. It always surprised him that he'd see another kitten.

Well, at least the mirror was "new" to the cat. I've lived in my current apt for about 4 years and one of my cats (3 in total) just realized a few months ago that my closet doors are mirrored. I got her almost 2 years ago (she was 8 weeks old), and when she saw another cat staring back at her she reacted the same way your cat did. It was funny watching her try and attack the "other" cat, only to realize that she was just attacking her own reflection.

And this one is also a bit special.
