My sister is half way through a 2 week class to teach her to tutor kids with dyslexia. Her daughter has it and she homeschools so she wants to make sure she can keep her on track.

She did some kind of diagnostic test on my oldest yesterday and said she's quite positive he has it as well. It runs in the family, I hear. Do you have family members who have it?

As far as I know I am the only one in my family that has it.

Were you diagnosed by a medical dr?

No I was at school in the 5th grade I think they brought in a specialist when they noticed that something was not right it started with my speeach and it went from there I always was in a special ed class but things got better. the funny thing is people always ask how is it I can read so well but can't spell worth crap lol

And that's why I'm not sure dyslexia is what my son has because his spelling is ok. Well, kinda. I mean, we don't have to spend toooo much time on his spelling words before he has them memorized. But his reading is crap. He's already a year behind. Reading affects everything other school subject.

He has an IEP and gets special help already so the school told me that it's not worth getting the official diagnosis. I'm not sure I agree with that.

I am dyslexic as well. I didn't have any explanation as to why I didso horrible in school until I had a job where I was working with numbers all day. I would always be in tears because my work would come back with so many errors, which counted against me. Finally figured it out after going to see a specialist.

Are you left handed? I've read a lot of studies about a link between dyslexia and being left handed. I am a lefty.

I have dyslexia. A lot of kids with it memorize things excellently. I couldn't read but I could spell once someone helped spell it once.
