Should a hickey be ignored at work?

We took dd to putt putt Friday and this teenage guy working there had a pretty big hickey on his neck. I thought it looked trashy. He obviously liked himself by how he acted. Later I heard him talking to the girls at the food counter (they didn't seem impressed at all) and later I saw him with band aids covering it. Someone who appeared to be management ended up in the conversation.
No real point to this other than I saw it and it was obviously considered inappropriate by management. So lets turn it into a question.

Should he have had that covered before coming to work or should it be ignored?

I will send you home if you show up wiith that shit on your neck. And yes, on the first day of work, I make sure it is understood that is what will happen. We deal with public and such shows bad taste.

Oh he was proud of it. Didn't believe the girls behind the counter wouldn't dare leave a hickey or be ok with guys doing that to them.

This is a family place mostly geared to kids too.

It should have been covered before he went to work.

There was a girl at an office that I worked at that showed up with hickies all the time. The manager talked to her about it several times. Then one day she came in with a giant one, and she was fired on the spot.
