My ex still has me as his beneficiary even though he is remarried

He has to renew his life insurance every year

His beneficiaries are listed as 50% Myself and 50% to our son

His wife is offended by this.

He has told his wife she will get left the home but she wants more.

I think it is fair

My life insurance is set up the same way.  If I'm not present who else is to take care of my son if he is still a minor if I pass?  That money is only available to him after he turns 18 anyway.

What do you think?

Idk. I can understand why he does it but I can understand the wife being upset too.

I am also my ex's beneficiary, 100%. If he wants to add a new spouse into his life before the kids are 18, he has to get a new insurance policy. It was part of our divorce agreement.

If she wants additional life insurance on him, she can purchase all life insurance on him that she wants.

I think it's the responsible thing for him to do...at least until he has children with the new wife, then it would need to be revised.

i can understand it assuming he does not have children with the new wife.

It's up to him but if I was the wife, I wouldn't be having it.

I can understand why he did it; but I'd be upset to; half should go to his children by you; and half should go to his children by her.

My DH has a policy for his wife; and a policy for me. When his children by her turn 18 the insurance is turning into their policy

he has refused to go through the steps it takes to attain 3rd party life insurance.

It doesn't matter how he has it down, I am pretty sure that she will get some of it anyway. Most states have a law called an elective share so that spouse's may not be left out of an estate. Where I live the spouse may choose between 1/3 of the estate or $50,000, whichever is more.

In many states, it LEGALLY has to be this way.
