My friend gave birth the other day at the hospital and her ds literally flew out of her, the umbilical cord snapped and he fell on the floor. They sent him by air ambulance to a larger hospital for testing and could not find any issues. They are keeping him for observation for 4-5 days to make sure he is okay. So hoping that all turns out okay and I could not imagine being separated from my baby so soon after giving birth.

Has anyone heard of this happening and if so what was the outcome?

Thought I would answer some questions on this post.

They induced her as they noticed that he did not grow much since the last ultrasound and his heart rate kept dropping. We are not sure why he was so small and why they didn't figure this out earlier. I will be getting more details once things settle down, I did not want to ask her too many questions as she was very upset.

My error his weight was closer to 4lbs than 3 and they named him Chase.

She was 36 weeks pregnant and they changed her due date a couple of times.

My friend and her baby are now at home after almost 3 weeks in the hospital! They have found no injuries with him from being dropped on the floor. He is eating from the breast and a bottle and now weighs 4lbs 6 oz. We hope all goes well going forward!

Never heard of that. Sounds like there is something wrong at that hospital to allow such a thing.

Yikes!  was no one sitting right there to catch the baby?  What nonsense.

It happened to a friend of mine. He has speech delay but not beause of the incident at birth. He's a smart healthy 5yo now :) . Luckily for her she was already in the major hospital so they didn't have to be separated.

They induced her and they said there was a large gush of blood and he flew 4 feet and landed on the floor. He was only 3 pounds and I believe it shocked everybody in the room.

I would think that the separation would be more harmful than him falling on the floor.

Wow.  She must have really gotten the PUSH down.  I do hope he's okay.
