14 month old can open the oven and dishwasher... Help?

My 14 month old can open the oven and dishwasher. Is there anything I can do besides redirection? I'm always watching him but I don't want him to accidentally get into them, sometimes he will go in the kitchen a few second before me.

Don't they still sell appliance locks to keep toddlers out? We used to have a fridge lock, but that's all we ever needed. Gate off the kitchen?

Natural consequences. For especially headstrong children, this is often the only thing that will work.

They don't have enough room between the counter and the oven/dishwasher

I'm all for natural consequences but I'm not letting my baby stick his hand in a 400 degree oven.
