Sitting down or standing up?

Quick question. My 4 year old is potty trained, sitting down. When should I and how do I go about incorporating standing into it? My friend was making fun of me because I have not yet but he just trained not long ago. Does the cheerios thing really work? How did you do it? He doesn't have a man in his life and unsure of how to start. I bought him a step stool, should I actually wait until he can stand and reach on his own?

I'm trying to remember how I did it with my son. I think he sat until he was about 4....? It seemed so long ago cuz he's 11 now!
I didn't do the Cheerios but explained that guys pee standing up.

My son wouldn't train while sitting. Once I started letting him stand, he took to it quickly. I did use cheerios a few times, but he took to it naturally, so I didn't make it a habit.

My son started at about 4 when he was in preschool.

In our house you sit down to pee...ALWAYS! I am not cleaning up after them.

I don't see why you need to teach him standing up now, just wait until he is fully potty trained and then show him. Start the good sitting habit first. =D

My son is 3 but we potty trained at 2 sitting down.  Now at 3 he just started standing up on his own and he doesn't have trouble with it other than the fact that he iskind of short.

My son is 8, my DH is almost 32.

They don't always make a mess but it is just cleaner for them to sit. Less chances of mistakes and accidents.

DS can pee standing up and uses the urinals when we are out but not at home.
