We will encourage our children to stay at home.

DH and I plan to encourage our children to stay at home as long as possible.

We will suggest they do 2 years at the local community college and then transfer to a local university and get their degree (unless they get a full scholarship). Then we will encourage them to stay home for a few more years after they graduate so they can pay off debt (student loans) and save for either a down payment on a house or a nice apartment.

We want to give our kids the best start in life and feel this is a good way to help them.

So they will probably be around 22-23 when they finish school, then home while they find a good job, work and save, so they probably won't move out until they are 25-28 years old.

I think we are in them minority on here. We also plan on encouraging them to not get married or have any children during this time too.

You can plan all you like but in honesty they will do what they choose.

I think that's a great idea. I moved back in with my folks after I had my son at 19 (I was in college) and stayed until I had finished school and had someone's saved. It worked out for all of us because I helped out a lot around the house, watching my little sister (13 years younger) and cooking, especially.

I feel the same way, as long as they're doing something producgive with their lives. I was out on my own at 17 and it's hard to get ahead when all your time is spent working and all your money goes to paying bills.

That is why I said "encourage". I know they will do what they want but we can start talking to them about it way in advance.

You won't have to worry about them getting married too soon.  Any potential dates with half a brain won't get involved with your adult children who are still living at home.  That has red flags written all over it.
