to ask your wedding guests to provide their own meal? These potluck weddings are tacky as fuck! My wedding wasn't extravagant by any means but we paid for a kick ass party ourselves. If you can't afford to pay for what you want, scale back to what you can afford!

EDIT--I have not posted about this before. I'm not the aunt everyone is referring to but there were 2 posts about potluck weddings yesterday and I'm sorry but they are not acceptable. If you don't want to go into debt to pay for your wedding, wait till you can afford to pay for it or scale back. It is not the responsibility of your guests to provide their own meal and but you a gift. That not only makes you look tacky but greedy too.

I've yet to see that, thankfully.  That is pretty tacky.

We had finger foods. And my cake was home made by my family.

Never heard of that, but they should be ashamed of themselves.

If it was a small wedding of good friends, I would gladly participate in a potluck.

I don't think it is acceptable, unless it's immediate family only. That's the only time I've seen it.
Maybe 15 people total at wedding including the bride and groom.
