I decided to start drinking a glass of wine ever now and then. For the health benefits and to help me relax. I don't know much about buying wine.

Suggestions on the best wine without spending a fortune?

I like lumbrusco reiunite, I know I butchered that spelling, but I love it and you can get a big jug for like $18. It's red. I also like mascato.

Okay so the Moscato it is.  Which is better for Red or White? I always heard red is better?

If you like sweet wine then plum wine is the way to go. Doesn't get any sweeter than that

There's a wine we love called sweet Walter red. It's kinda cheap but it's really yummy.

The few times I have tried wine the alcohol taste is super strong. Is there a good one to start with that isn't as strong? To build up the taste?

There's no such thing as "best" wine, as taste is subjective.

None of the wines suggested contain resveratrol (only significantly found in red wines), which is what gives wine health benefits. They're nothing but sugar bombs.

So what do you suggest?
