Maybe I am an ingrate.... but I do not consider this a gift!

For my DD's 7th birthday yesterday my FIL got her a cool guft certificate for circus school. (acrobatics, trapeze classes, etc.). He got it without talking with us about it 1st. That was an odd move in itself, but whatever I am okay with it. And DD is soooo excited about it.

Soooo here is the crappy part that to me makes it "not a gift". I go online to their web site. The gift certificate is for $100. Awesome, right? Ummm, nope! The lowest classes are $180 for 8 weeks. Money is tight and we do not have an extra $80. I scrimp and save to afford the sports they are in. they do knights of Columbus sports which are $20 for the whole season and includes uniform and a trophy.

DH thinks I am being an ingrate. But, I am pissed!! DD is gonna be heartbroken and we get to be the bad guys!

What do u think? Would you be upset? What would you do?

See if he knew, maybe he would be willing to pay the extra 80. I think its a nice gift. Maybe he didnt realize you couldnt afford the extra.

Let her take one class and consider it a fun experience?

Uh yeah I would be a little irked. He could have said something to you all before hand so that maybe you could save that extra $80 ahead of time or could have told him you wouldn't be able to.
It's a really cool gift but poorly executed!

I'd tell my husband to tell his father we can't use it. FIL can either take it back or add to it (I wouldn't say that part). Maybe FIL isn't aware of the cost of classes?

It does not say. That is an idea. But DD is still gonna be bummed cus it will take forever to save that $ up. We are literally pay check to pay check!
