If family doesn't come, do they owe you a reason why they don't?

It's nice to know if they do plan to show, so you can make sure you have enough food.

If they back out last minute, yes I do. If its a case of needing to go to the in laws side, well it happens. We try really hard to all schedule time together.

That never happens. I have a small family and it's all discussed ahead of time where it'll be held and whose going to be there. I live in the same yard as my grandma and my aunt lives with her. My sister and her family live with my mom so really we are always either at my mom's or my grandma's.

 Since I usually invite family out of obligation, I don't mind if they don't show and they certainly don't owe me an explanation.

Only if they said they were coming and then never showed up and never called/texted that they weren't coming. When people do that I worry something bad has happened...

We have decided to spend all holidays but thanksgiving and Christmas Eve at home. We host Easter. People are mad we are sticking close to home and focusing on us.
