Is this the norm for parties now

My daughter went to a birthday party at a pizza place yesterday. It was one of those buffet type places.  I drop her off, talk to the mom, and run across the street to get a few things at the grocery store.  Then my dd calls.  She needs money. Apparently this is a pay your own way birthday party....

I have never been to one like that. If I hadn't of been informed beforehand I probably would of just picked her up.

Lol!  No....that's tacky.  I'd pick my child up and leave (and take my gift with me)

Not that I've ever heard of.  How tacky.

Yeah, I'd have gone back and picked her up.

If you can't afford to host the party, don't have one. If you need to make guests pay, it's definitely time to go back to simple cake and ice cream and pin the tail on the donkey at your house and forget having a kids birthday party at a venue.

WOW if you cannot afford to throw a party don't. How tacky. I agree I would have picked my kid up and left.

That's pretty tacky and I would be annoyed. Especially if it was just assumed the parents would all pay and not indicated anywhere (on the invites, etc.)

I could never imagine doing that! Might as well charge $5/head for the pizza you ordered at home! So tacky!
