So I'm a 911 dispatcher, and I find it absolutely baffling that people don't understand what is an appropriate reason to call 911. This happened:

Me: "____ County 911, What is the location of your emergency?"

Idiot: "Yeah, I was just wondering...since they cancelled the fireworks on Thursday, do you know if they are having them another day?"

Me "......Sir, this is 911. For emergencies only."

Idiot: "Yeah, I know. I just need to know and don't know who to call.  So are they having them on another day?"

Me "Don't call 911 again unless you have an emergency."

What the heck? It happens all the time. During football season, I've had callers wanting to know scores!! Also, people think we are the weather service because they'll call to check the forecast. Ugh!

Please tell me that you all know how to correctly utilitze the 911 service?  Please?

I've only had to call 911 twice, once when dh collapsed and was unresponsive and then again when our elderly neighbor fell down the stairs and split her forehead open.

Unfortunately our 911 dispatchers are horrible, both times they argued with me and said those weren't real emergencies.

What?!  BOTH of those qualify as emergencies.  If someone being unresponsive isn't an emergency...what the heck is?!
