Is she bulimic? Update.

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

Every time after DD eats she pukes. No diet changes, no fevers, no exposure to any known illnesses.

She acts like she's starving to death and eats so fast, then about 15 minutes later she is throwing up almost everything she has ate.

I don't know if she has an eating disorder or if its from her eating entirely too fast. I've pleaded with her to slow down and take her time eating, but she's ADHD and slowing down anything is practically impossible.

I'm worried about her health, and with her appt being on the 29th it seems like forever away.

Any advice or experience with something like this?

Update:

This morning I gave her smaller portions and sat down with her and practically had to feed her myself to get her to slow down. It worked, she kept breakfast down. Lunch was the same thing, but she did throw up SOME. Not a lot like she has been doing though, so I think that's helping. I'm giving her reeeeeeeeeeeally small portions at each sitting and if she asks for more I give her another small portion. The doctor's office called around and got her in for another doctor two towns over for later this week. I managed to talk to their nurse and she encouraged me to keep this up till the appt and to make sure she's still getting fluids to make up for what she's not able to keep down. They told me I could keep giving her the zofran if I felt like it was helping and stay on a bland diet as well. Thanks ladies for the advice I really appreciate it.

I'd be finding an urgent care.  She's going to be over a month doing that, and that is going to do serious damage to her.

I highly doubt it's an eating disorder.  That usually starts a choice.

About 2 weeks now. When I was certain it wasn't a virus I scheduled an appt to see the doctor but they're booked so far out its ridiculous.

How long has she been doing that for

Does she take any medications for her ADHD?

Yes almost every single time she eats. Not when she drinks though. I've been having her drink powerade and things like that to help with anything she's losing. I haven't noticed a rash and the only diahrrea was after drink a big glass of apple juice the other day. I tried soups to see if she could keep those down but that didn't seem to work either. And she seems perfectly fine between meals, about an hour before meals she will tell me her head and stomach hurt though.

Does she vomit every single time she eats? If so then she probably is eating fast because she has nothing in her stomach. kwim? Does she vomit after she drinks too? does she have any other symptoms? rash, diahrea etc? 5 seems very young to have a eating disorder. I'd be more worried about it being something medical wise. Hope you get answers.

We don't have one at all. We have the doctor's office and the ER the next town over. I'll call in the morning to see if they can get her in sooner or refer her to another doctor that can see her sooner.

Her regular doctor so that way if she needs a referral we can get one that day. Otherwise we have to pay out of pocket for the visit if she needs to see a specialist. If we take her to the ER they will treat her symptoms with zofran and IV fluids then send her home, we went that route already.

Why is her app not till the 29th? Are you taking her to a gi doctor or pedi? Why don't you just take her to the er?

I am not a medical professional or anyone with experience in this area, but definitely talk to your doctor about this issue. It could be a million different things from a gastrointestinal issue to something psychological.

I do have a child that I work with, who has pretty intense ADHD and his parents recently took him off of his medication for a variety of reasons.  One of the reasons was how it impacted his nutritional intake.

Only if she does it intentionally.

She is asking for advice. And it is midnight. At least on the east coast. I doubt the kid is awake.

Why bother if you have nothing to add?

Sit her down and talk to her instead of posting on here
