Appropriate punishment?

My 8 year old was getting an attitude about cleaning so I told him he better not even open his mouth again because he was about to get himself in trouble.

So he opened his mouth and made a face at me... No words. Just being a smart ass. So I told him he could keep his happy rear in his room for the day

I discipline, not punish.  I can't be much help.

What do you mean exactly?  What would you have done in that situation?

He's almost 9... 15 minutes is nothing. He doesn't care

Playing semantics on words is all. Annoying

I would've made him do an extra chore for being a smart ass, lol.

Take away outside privileges, tv, video games, whatever he enjoys the most, I would take it away for the rest of the day.

I probably would have sent my son to his room as well. I wouldn't have held strong on the "all day" thing but yea, he'd be in there for at least half an hour. It's hard to punish a kid when they are a smart ass and you kind of want to laugh at what they did but I understand where you're coming from lol
