URGENT! My cousin Keith is in the Army in Ft. Worth. He was in an accident and needs lots of prayers! A missile hit Keith's left hand and abdomen. Part of small intestines took out and repaired. His bladder was damaged but hopefully repaired. Left testicle damaged as well and bleeding a lot. Hopefully repaired. He lost all 4 fingers. He is on a ventilator and has had blood 3 different times. They will have to wake up his organs now and make sure they work. They are leaving him open until Friday in case more surgery is needed. If medics had not been on the field he would have bled to death. The Red Cross is going to be contacting the family, and his parents will be travelling down to be with him. He needs lots of prayers! He will be 20 next month. Thanks for all your prayers, thoughts and well wishes!
They were able to save his pinky finger and thumb. He is having some difficulty getting used to the idea of missing 3 fingers :( He kept trying to remove his breathing tube so they took it out and he was laughing and joking. They're going to let him try to walk today! Thanks everyone for your prayers :)
Keith is having some depression with his fingers being gone. He has been having trouble breathing but they believe its the medicine. They found out he has a broken pelvis, but he has amazed the doctors by walking anyway!
7/19 There is a little concern with Keith's bladder/urinary tract. It may be leaking. There was some shrapnel left in his hip because removing it might have been more harmful than leaving it in. However, it is causing lots of pain and because of that and fever, and some results from blood work, it seems as if there might be an abscess around it. He had a CT scan, but they will not know the results until tomorrow. If it is abscessed, they will attempt to drain it with a needle but if they can't do that, they will likely opt for surgery to remove the shrapnel, despite the fact that it is very dangerous to do so. Keith did walk some today but he continues having trouble with no appetite and it is very difficult to make oneself eat without the drive to do so and even harder for one's body to heal without proper nourishment.
