What do you say when....

someone compliments your childrens skills or accomplishments but the child isn't there?

If the child is there obviously the child thanks them, but when they aren't saying thank you just seems silly.

For example: my son plays baseball. He is an amazing pitcher in his age group. He's 9. Often other parents will come to me and tell me how great he is, which is awkward. I take no credit for this, so a thank you is inappropriate.

It's just weird.

Huh? You say thank you and that you're proud of how hard he's worked. How is that hard to do?

I usual say "Thank you, I will let him know that." Or something to that extent.

You should say thank you, they are complimenting your child, you are grateful for the compliment. It's not that you are taking any credit for his skill.

Thank them? They aren't complimenting me. I am not one of those parents who thinks my childs accomplishments are an extension of me.It's him and him alone.

I think thats so weird when I say to someeon "hey your son is a great hitter" and they say "thanks". As if they are the ones out there doing it.

This is a first. I love it when people come to me and compliment my son on how great he is at soccer. It makes me very proud of  him so I tell them thank you very much. I think it is weird and rude not to tell someone thank you when they compliment someone's skills
