Another post got me thinking... I dont understand how one spelling can be multiple things. Two women in church have babies and I watch the nursery.
one's name is Mia. My-ah
Ones name is Mia. Me-ah

It pisses me off :-/

Both are phonetically correct, since they are simply choosing to emphasize the letters differently, and use long and short sounds of the letters.

Mia is me-uh.

Mya is my-uh.

My dd is Hallie (hal-lee). There is another girl at her peds office who spells it the same way but pronounces it like Haley. It's because some parents don't understand basic phonics.

i've never seen anyone pronounce it with the long a....but we do go to girl scouts with a little girl named mya :)

Tomato.... Tahmato.   It is all in the pronunciation.

Andrea...  may be pronounced: An- dree-ah,   On-dree-ah,  An-dray-a

Marisa....   Mar-ee-sa  or Mar- is-sa
