Am I being unreasonable? Re: neighbors

My husband and I live in an apartment building. Our son is 2.

Our neighbors are a childless couple in their young 20's. My son goes to bed at 7, but they play music until around 8:30 when they're home. My son's bedroom shares a wall with their living room, and it keeps him from falling asleep or it wakes them up.

We asked them to not do it anymore, but they said no, and added in a little jab about how they hear my son cry or run around all the time too. Are we being unreasonable?

Yes you are.  8:30 is not late, now if it was 11pm then I could see their issue.

Your child should learn to fall asleep w/noise.

Check your lease, generally 10 pm is the time when noise can or will be controlled. Living in apartments unfortunately you give up peace and quiet.

Yes. If they were playing it at midnight that'd be one thing. But your neighbors should be allowed to do as they please in their own home during reasonable hours.

Yep, they have a right to listen to music in their apartment if they want.

They play music until 8:30? Like 8:30 pm? Yea...you're being unreasonable. My apartment had a policy about loud noise...that didn't start till 10 pm. They pay rent too, they should be allowed to play music and enjoy their home like you and your child are able to enjoy your home. If there is no policy with the apartment complex, you're out of luck.

Yes. You can't seriously expect that they're going to not listen to music or hang out in your living room  in the evening because your son is sleeping.

Yep, they have to deal with your noise. Find a townhome or a single story villa if you are concerned about normal noise which theirs is indeed normal.

Could you talk to apt mgmt and move to a quieter unit?
