I got two g-d damn kids and I'll leave them in the car if I want to!

Posted by   + Show Post

So I had to run to the store to get lettuce for taco night, and that's what I heard a woman screaming into her phone.

Add a few more expletives and you have her exact sentence.

She was trying to justify locking her two children in the car because she was going to take the key fob off and leave the car running to go into Walmart.

This is the same store where a man attempted to kidnap my 1 yo (then 10 months) when I was unlocking the door.

I have no idea who she was on the phone with, but apparently they were telling her what an awful idea that was.

How would you feel about leaving children strapped in their carseat inside a running but locked vehicle?

My biggest fear is someone kidnapping my child. I think there was a case like that in Michigan, right? The dad went into the store, left the child in the car (with it running) and the car was carjacked, then the child found dead?

no kidding!  scary to think about.

Quoting KanPsMommy:

We need one! There was a child kidnapped a few years ago because mom left her in a running vehicle from this same walmart. And earlier this year a mom accidentally locked her child and keys in the vehicle and watched as her child was being strangled waiting for EMT to get there to break the window... Imagine if she hadn't been there and seen the issues arise?

Quoting Anonandon:

People are idiots.  There's now a sign on the doors to our Walmart grocery store reminding parents to be aware of when their kids are with them and please don't leave them in the car.  Next time I go I'll take a picture.

Yes ma'am after that I went and got a concealed carry permit. I had pepper spray at the time, but when I told him I had a gun and would shoot him if he didn't put her down and back away quickly he did exactly what I said and ran. I called the police and reported it. Since he didn't technically commit a crime he wasn't arrested that day, but was arrested a few days later for breaking and entering.

I forgot to add. . . I've been through a lot of self-defense training. . .I was alarmed when you said there was an attempted kidnapping on your son.  Do you carry pepper spray?  If not, do you know the key trick ( sticking keys in between your fingers and making a fist. . . very painful weapon)  I do these things when it's just me and the kids in sketchy places.  our wal-mart is a freak fest, too. . . I just wanted to ask if you knew about those things so you could easily protect your son if the need arose again . . stay safe!

The same store and you still go back?! I'd be scared shitless.

People are morons, it's that kind of attitude (from the woman) that get so many poor children taken, hospitalized, or worse. You shouldn't leave kids in the car, period.

You leave your kid in the car and i call the cops if i see them.

what age is acceptable to you where you would NOT call the cops on a kid in a car?

Yep, today was the first time I've seen it, but it's a big orange sign on the door as you walk in.  I'm kind of glad they have it, but at the same time, it's pathetic that it's needed.  I wouldn't be surprised if I start seeing them elsewhere too.  We're in El Paso, and it's been "cool" this week (upper 80s-90s), but normally 100s are normal for us for awhile.  People just don't think.

You're kidding!!  They actually have to have a SIGN telling people not to do this??  Dumbfounded.

Wow.  I'm just shocked, but unfortunately you're right.   The world is getting scarier by the day.

And you'd be comfortable leaving them in a vehicle while you went inside a store like Walmart?

Not a young age no. My son is only 9 months I bring him in no matter what.  I could see though if the kids in like 12 and you are just running in for something, not if you were doing a full trip to the store though
