How to dispose of a laptop?

I have several old laptops that are just broken down and don't work anymore. I don't want to just toss them in the garbage because I'm not sure what's on them and I wouldn't want my personal information getting out. I don't even have the chargers for them anymore, so how do I get rid of them properly? Is there a way to wipe them clean or what? Thanks ladies

Take them to a local computer company. We usually wipe the drive for free. For the parts.
