We got our dog about 2 years ago. He was previously abused but very sweet. We put him in training and he was doing great. Well now he is very very agressive towards my 6 year old son. I am not sure what has changed but he has nipped at my son 3 times now. The first time we talked to his trainer and made a few changes but now anytime my son walks past him he growls barks and it scares both me and my son.  We couldnt figure out what change there was that made him act this way. We took him to the vet and he is healthy. We found him a new home with no kids and so far he is doing great.

I feel so sad that we got rid of him but my sons safety is my top priority.

sounds like you made the right choice and did it responsibly. don't feel bad you have to protect your son before everything else!

Wise decision.  I hope his new home is a better fit for all.  You tried your best.  Wasn't in the cards.

That's hard :( Pets are family too, but children always come first. You did the right thing,

Better for all around, your son may have done something without even knowing it that spooked him and reminded him of before.  But best not to have an aggressive dog around a child.

I am glad you found a childless home for him rather than dropping him off at a shelter to be adopted out with a false history (ie, great with kids) or euthanized for being a biter.

Did the vet do any blood work?
