Do you open food you haven't paid for at the grocery store?

I worked in a grocery store for several years demoing wine.   I was always shocked at how many people open food or bottled beverages and eat or drink, or hand it to their kids to eat as they shop.    I was always taught that was stealing.  Don't most people feel that way?

If you or your kids are that hungry or thirsty, why not grab what you want to eat or drink, go through the quick checkout, pay for it,  and then shop for whatever else you need?

Until it's paid for you have no right to eat or drink it.

Nope. This is not okay in my book. It is stealing until you have paid for it.

I won't. Just doesn't seem right to me.

Only if its not priced by weight. And its a rarity it happens.

Sometimes I will open a drink in line from the coolers on the end.

No, except for grapes.  I usually eat a few grapes before I buy them, but I always buy them.

My grandmother would always get a bottle of water and drink it through the store.  She was pretty sick and would often get severe dry mouth. She always paid for the bottle.  She just felt like it was a waste of time to go in buy the water shop and then go through the check out again.

Wrong. Until you leave the store without paying for it, it's not stealing.

I will often grab a soda or something from the bakery to eat while/before I shop, and pay for it at checkout.

I've done it. But I always pay for it when we check out. I don't let my kids eat it and then we don't pay for it, that'd be awful.
