For the ladies who know a thing or two about cars...

The AC in my car is acting wonky as shit, lol. Sometimes it doesn't blow at all. Sometimes it just barely blows kind of cool but not really cool. I know what you're going to say - take it to a mechanic, lol. However, the mechanic wants to charge me $250 just for the AC diagnostics panel... I don't want to spend $250 for someone to tell me my AC is not working, I know that already!

So my question is, does this sound like it might just be freon? Some people say that it does, because the AC blows intermittently. Others say that it doesn't for the same reason. I'd rather pay the $80 to get the freon charged if there's a decent chance that it's the issue. Car savvy ladies, what do you think?

Are you saying sometimes t blows cold, sometimes warm air and it blows air of some type the whole time you have it on, or are you saying sometimes it blows and sometimes it does not and you have it on the whole time?

How old is the car? Have you ever added freon?

Have you added the freon? Our car did that.. it was an easy cheap fix.. they sell the gages as well with the canister at autozone. Our car did sort of the same thing. It was blowing next to no air until we did that

If it is not blowing at all sometimes it sounds like the fan or something.  If i was just the freon it would blow all the time just not cold.

When mine did that it needed freon. But when my husband's did the exact same thing it wasn't the freon. I think it depends on the car.... also you could need freon and still have something else wrong with the ac. Good luck

As long as it's actually still blowing air, warm or cold, then it's probably just going to be the freon.  You can recharge it yourself as long as it's a newer car (And by newer, I mean built after 96-98 or so).  If it's older and the system hasn't been retrofitted, you would have to take it to a mechanic anyway because older cars use a different type of freon (R-12 instead of the standard R-134a that newer cars use and is available for purchase)

Where do you live that you are allowed to buy it? A lot of places don't let you unless you have a license/are a mechanic

Sorry for the confusion! When I turn it on, it sometimes blows for just a few minutes and when it does, it doesn't blow as strong as it did before... so it'll be a light, cool breeze rather than a frigid blast, lol! Other times, if I turn it on, it doesn't blow at all (it's as if it is not on at all).
