Is 3 cats really too many?

My SO's brother came over a couple weeks ago and saw 2 cats and he made a comment about them and my SO told him there are actually 3 cats but one was hiding. In response his bother kept say oh wow 3? Wow, 3? Man that's a lot, 3?

So now I'm a bit self conscience about it. The apartment is small but I didn't set out to get all 3 it just happened and we will not be bringing any more into our home.

The litter boxes are cleaned daily and Ive never had anyone complain about the smell. I can afford to feed all 3 of them and take them to the vet if they need to go and because they aren't long hair we don't have cat hair everywhere. All 3 of them get along wonderfully too.

So what's wrong with having 3 in a one bedroom apartment if I can keep up with their needs? Is it really too many here?

I don't think there is anything wrong with 3 cats.  We have 2 and a ferret, we got the ferret after our elderly cat died.  I don't see a problem as long as they are all cared for.

Ew, it must smell, litterboxes smell in general. You are probably just used to it.

Not too many. You aren't approach Crazy Cat Lady status or anything. :)

i had 3 for 9 years, and I'm down to 2. I'd love another, but DH would kill me.

No it doesn't. If you clean out the boxes which I do and use a high quality litter....again which I do then there shouldn't be a smell.

I have 4 but in the summer they spend most of their time outside. I didn't want 4, two cats are enough for me but I didn't get the one fixed in time and so we had kittens LOL. At least we found homes for two of them.
