Help, I'm selling a car.

I put an ad on Craigslist to sell our Camry. A man emailed, asking for pictures and the car's VIN number. Is there anything funny he can do with the VIN number or does he just want it to run an accident report?

He wants it to make sure the vehicle was never wrecked.

We sold a car to someone off craigslist- and they asked for the vin. It's fine.

It's perfectly safe, they are wanting to run a CarFax report, or a vin check with the DMV. It will show non personal info, so your identity will be safe. The only thing a vin will tell you, is what make, model, year made, month made, assembly plant, options, engine, transmission.

He just wants to do a carfax report probably. I wouldn't be real comfortable with it either though. Not sure I would give it to him.

You are fine.   People see Vin #'s all the time.      It is the title that you need to protect.       Do you hold the title or the bank ?

I personally wouldn't buy a used car from a person unless it was under $2000! To many laws.

We're asking for $1200, only expecting a grand.
