Cost of having a baby?

Just wondering how much it cost you to have your baby in the states? How is it broken down (ultrasound, etc.)? How much was covered by your insurance company?

I am just curious. I am in Canada so didn't have to worry about any of that.

If we had gone the midwife route it would have cost us $5000 total for everything

We are going the doctor route and I think the total cost will be $400 for everything.

With my first I had a co-pay at my first doctor's appointment ($50) and the rest of the visits were free.  I had a $2500 deductible and after that 80% was covered.  We ended up paying $3200 out of pocket, and her total bill was $15,000.

With my second, same insurance company, different plan I had a $25 copay at the beginning and then a $500 deductible at the time of the birth and everything after that was covered 100%.  So DD2 was $500 out of pocket on a $13,000 total bill.

I didn't pay anything for either of my daughters, but if I have another one it'll be 20% -$500 credit from DHs company, so about $200-500 depending.

I paid $25 for my first pre-natal appt. and then didn't pay anything else for the rest of the pregnancies even though I was high risk and had appts. and ultra sounds every week. The hospital charged me $200 when our daughter was born but then we got that back from the insurance company a few weeks later. So in total,my pregnancy and the birth cost me $25.
