She says it is necessary for her newborn son to learn that she is "mom." She went on to say it will help the kids bond.

Oh please. Not gonna happen.

Lmao that would not go down well. That would be one of my points during a divorce. I am the only mom/mommy etc and dh is the only dad/daddy etc.

How long has she been their stepmom and how often does she see them?

Not that it really matters, because I still don't think it's acceptable, but I'm just trying to see where she may be coming from here.

Let it be up to the kids. I called one of my foster moms mom, just because it made me blend in (and I wasn't uncomfortable with it)

That would not be ok with me. How long has she been around? How old are the kids? What do the kids WANT to call her?

Deal with it and move on. Ignore her...there are so many more things to worry about.

I've always believed this should be a choice made by the children only.

I had a stepson who asked if he was supposed to call me Mom, I told him he was supposed to call me whatever made him comfortable, within reason,  I wasn't going to answer to assmunch. He laughed and called me by my name with a Mrs in front of it.

I just want my kids happy and comfortable.

I wouldn't ask my kids to call her that. Nor would I want them to. My oldest calls my fiancé, who is her step-dad, by his name. Because her dad is still very much apart of her life, and it doesn't confuse the other kids.
